There’s lots of days where I sit down to write this blog and have nothing to write about. I know you guys didn’t notice because of the extremely high quality writing you see on a daily basis here, but it’s true. However, this is possibly the first time I have TOO MANY things to write about.
Initially, I had planned to write about what Matt and I are doing today- namely, watching our oldest son graduate from Preschool, holding each other and crying as we send our boy of to kindergarten. Soon enough he’ll be too cool for us and won’t want to hold my hand or cuddle, then he’ll go to college, then he’ll marry a girl who will never be enough for my perfect little boy, we’ll comically butt heads and she’ll write a vicious scathing blog about her horrible mother-in-law that will be turned into a best seller and optioned by Paramount.

I mean, what kind of evil beast wouldn’t want a girl as lovely as this marrying her son?
By noon yesterday, I learned I could not write that blog. Because news leaked onto Eater about DeKalb Market closing and possibly relocating to somewhere else in Brooklyn. I was clearing up the facts on our Facebook page and over Twitter, and figured that I’d just sit down tonight and tell you the whole story (or what little I know of it so far).
And yes, something even bigger than that happened.

CON EDISON REDUCES VOLTAGE IN BROOKLYN AND QUEENS COMMUNITIES
NEW YORK – Con Edison has reduced voltage in several Brooklyn and Queens communities due to problems on electrical equipment.
The official announcement came at 11:15, but the reduction happened much earlier. After making all our batters, pouring them into pans, and getting all our mise en place together- Con Ed cut our power by 75%.
We have electric ovens.
We couldn’t bake anything.
Right now we’re in a “fingers crossed” pattern. Everything’s ready to go, and we’re hoping that power will come back onto the grid overnight as temperatures drop. Matt and our team came home to grab a few hours of sleep, then will go back at dawn, bake everything, deliver to all our outlets on the later side, the get back into the kitchen to bake for the weekend.
So as of this moment, there’s no cupcakes, no brownies, Matt’s missing our son’s graduation, and our store is scheduled to be picked up by a forklift and moved to an undisclosed location in Brooklyn.
Like I’ve said a million times: you like baking? Work at a bakery. You like having a billion problems? Own a bakery. These are the breaks, kids.
As I get information about deliveries, DeKalb, etc- I will post it. Super duper pinky swear promise.
Now, as I don’t have any pictures to close out the post as I normally do, here’s the theme song to “What’s Happening”. Enjoy.
