Today we’re supposed to be debuting our “Gingerbread Man” cupcake, but we hit a bit of a snag……the gingerbread men never came.  Now normally, we produce nearly 97% of the extras we use right here in the Robicelli’s kitchen- we make fresh fruit compotes, make our own cookies for toppings and crumbs, our own malted milk balls and candies and sauces and, well, everything.  But itty bitty little gingerbread men? That would just take waaaaaaay too much time, so we ordered them a few weeks back from a company in upstate New York.  And then, they never showed.  Apparently, the company didn’t realize that after we had ordered them we wanted them “right away”- they thought we’d just want to receive them “eventually”.

Perhaps it was fate.  Perhaps the dessert gods wanted us to make our own gingerbread cookies, just like they forced our hand into making up our own hot cocoa (and we will be selling the mix SOON, I promise).  So we made the cookie dough, but there was absolutely no way we were cutting out thousands of little gingerbread men.  I mean, not that we don’t love you, but there’s a TON of labor in this cupcake already, and we don’t want to have to charge sixty bucks a pop for them.  However the name “Gingerbread Triangle” just doesn’t have the same pop as “Gingerbread Man” did.

Matt and I were trying to think of a good name on the fly, and thought it should be something super German sounding.  And all our German friends have names that are moderately German sounding, but not really awesome kick-you-in-the balls German like “Gottschlak” or “Henirich”.  So we just started talking smack, and came out with the most awesome and holiday-appropriate name we could think of:

Hansel.  Or better yet:

HANSEL.

Lots of people ask us how we come up with names for our one billion flavors and counting.  Some are named after friends (the Noah, the McFadden), people we admire (Julia, Bea Arthur), places that are important to us (the Hinsch).  But sometimes- Matt and I are just dicking around and will do something just so we can make running jokes about it (the Bluth, El Guapo).  This is one of those times.  Let this begin a week of Zoolander quoting for all of us!

If the Hansel wasn’t enough to get you excited, how about ANOTHER new flavor! Port Poached Pear- another classic dessert we’re taking out of the restaurants and trying to get in the hands of the working man.  They’re crazy easy to make yourself, so if you like this one, you should take a stab at making them for your next dinner.  It doesn’t even need to be a fancy dinner- just make it for yourself! You deserve nice things! (like cupcakes! and Robicelli’s branded cocoa mix and whoopie pie gift boxes! and maybe a new pair of shoes too- why the hell not!)

Crisco?

Today we introduce the Hot Toddy cupcake, which I’m sure will be controversial since I put a call out for your best Toddy recipes on Facebook & Twitter about six weeks ago, and got about 100 different recipes.  Some use whiskey, some use rum, some use both, some use cider, some use lemon, some use rocks.  But they all have one thing in common- each person believes their recipes is the RIGHT one, and everyone else has absolutely no idea how to make a proper Hot Toddy. Just like how everyone on the road is an idiot with a deathwish, except of course, for me.

I probably should have just dropped the flavor and quietly slinked out of harms way, but I had already done the whole schedule and I was too tired to do anything else.  Besides, I’m incredibly backlogged right now.  I finally got the Holiday Ordering tab up so you can start reserving cupcakes for all the fancy shmancy holiday parties you’re bound to be attending- I’m still doing some edits on it, so if you have questions you know to just give us a call or shoot us an email.  I’m also working on making an online order form for those of you who want to purchase gift boxes of brownies and whoopie pies for either your friends and family, or as corporate gifts (gift sets start at $10!).  AND I’m now trying to find a way to bag up our cocoa mix for purchase, since people have been asking us to sell it since it debuted at the Union Square Holiday Market this past Thursday.  Plus I’m going to try and get my kids to see Santa this year and pray that we don’t have a repeat of last years “screaming in terror, running away, and causing Mommy to have a massive nervous breakdown in the middle of a JC Penny” episode.

So to gear up for this week, let’s go out and grab some Hot Toddy cupcakes.  It’s just like drinking, except you can do it at your desk and your boss won’t know!

This week we’re doing a little something different and doing ALL of our deliveries on Thursday.  That’s because Friday we’ll be busy setting up for the HESTER STREET BIG SOCIAL HOLIDAY MARKET!  Woohoo!  You better be planning on coming down to see us- we’re next to the bar and across from Pies n’Thighs!  What more do you want?!?!?

This is a TWO NEW FLAVOR week, including one featuring the winner of the Brooklyn Based raffle!  If you don’t remember that, a few months back BB raffled off the chance to be immortalized as a Robicelli cupcake, and this week is the birthday of the winner, Ms. Joy Osbourne!  Joy has a mixed heritage- her father hails from the Barbados, and her mother from New Orleans.  So we’ve combined a rum cake with molasses and Carribean spices with some good old fashioned Louisiana pralines, and hot damn it’s delicious.  And when you’re chowing down on it, send a happy birthday wish to Joy!  The other is a Christmas flavor and personal love- chocolate chestnut- made with delicious chestnut cream imported from Italy.  Hope you guys enjoy both while they’re still here.

NEW!!!  “THE JOY”:  Rum spice cake, vanilla buttercream, crushed pecan pralines

NEW!!!  CHOCOLATE CHESTNUT:  Chocolate cake, chocolate chestnut buttercream, roasted chestnuts, chocolate ganache
