Press This Week

We’ve been popping up all over the press this week, so for those of you who are not following us on Facebook or Twitter (which you SHOULD be- it’s ever so much fun!), here’s a recap!

First off………..

THE FRONT PAGE OF THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS!

I’ve read the Daily News every single day since I was old enough to read, and I never dreamed I would ever be on the front page. Actually, if I was on the front page it probably would have meant something terrible had happened, so yeah, I was kinda hoping I’d never end up there.

But we are there, and it is GOOD! That’s our cupcake, just inches away from Herman Cain’s crotch! It is good, and that made it even BETTER!

Ciroq Vodka contacted us about making cupcakes with Andy Cohen’s head on them, and here they are on “Watch What Happens Next After Show”!.  These are “Ciroq Peaches & Cream”: the cake is made with peaches & Ciroq Peach vodka, then soaked with even more Ciroq.  Then we topped it with creamy mascarpone buttercream, and finished with peaches that were simmered in Ciroq Peach vodka, vanilla and brown sugar.  We hope you liked them, Andy!

And if you’re wondering where we got those lovely “Andy Cohen’s Head Cupcake Toppers”- we made them, and we can make some for you, too!  Whether it’s someone’s head, your corporate logo, a picture of your dog, Scott Baio, whatever…..we can make it happen!

Our Whoopie Pies are mentioned in the New York Post!  This is especially nice, because the whoopies are one of our most sought after items, but don’t get the media love that the cupcakes do.  They’re highlighting our Eggnog Whoopie, but we have lots of flavors that have been selling out almost daily- Nutella Praline, Cookies & Cream, Mint Chocolate and more!  And they’re all ridiculously delicious!

Remember that pop-up we did last year at the indoor park at Open House gallery? Well with DeKalb closing for construction projects for three months, we’ve decided to go back!  Beginning in January, you’ll be able to find us on certain dates at Park Here at 201 Mulberry, and Time Out New York has stated that it’s the Number One Thing To Do In NYC This Winter! And even though it hasn’t been feeling like there will really be any need for an indoor park, I am almost POSITIVE it’s going to get really cold really soon.  Really.

Serious Eats came and took photos for their Union Square Holiday Market slideshow, and they said that we won the award for best-decorated-booth! I’ve built and decorated all our locations myself (DeKalb Market, Madison Square Eats), so it’s nice to get a little tip of the hat for that.  Thanks, Serious Eats!

We were also on OWN a few weeks ago in a cupcake segment on the Gayle King show, but unfortunately it’s not online.  We do, however, have it on our Tivo, so if you want proof come on over and we’ll show it to you.  Bring tacos.

WINNERS! BEST CUPCAKE- People’s Choice 2010!

~(=-O

Is that the emoticon for ridiculously happy, shocked, honored, floored?!?!?!  You know I’m no good at this dang-fangled internets!!!!

WE ARE THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE FOR THE BEST CUPCAKE OF 2010 ON SERIOUS EATS NY!!!

We’re still honestly getting over the shock of being nominated, especially against so many people we admire.  This is just too, too much.

If you voted, let us know next time you catch us so we can give you a hug.  This has been one of the best years of our life, all thanks to you.  :D (I got the emoticon right this time, yes?)

Help Us Win the Honor of Being NYC's BEST CUPCAKE!

Once again, the good folks at Serious Eats NY  have bestowed a huge honor on us….

WE HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST CUPCAKE SHOP IN THEIR ANNUAL PEOPLE’S CHOICE POLL!!!

Ok, so we don’t technically have a shop, but this could change that.  It’s a gigantic compliment to be included on a list that includes such brilliant bakers as Butter Lane & Chikalicious to name but a few.

I can’t tell you how much it would mean to us to win this thing.  At this time last year, we had just shuttered our store and lost nearly everything we had to the recession, with the exception of our work ethic and our ability to make cupcakes and desserts that inspired an almost fanatical devotion in most people who tried them.  We only had two stores who would carry us (Blue Apron Foods & Hom, who are still two of our dearest clients).  And even though we had a following, great press and delicious samples, most of the doors we approached were slammed in our face.

In one year, we’ve been able to grow from only two shops to over a dozen (with more coming in January).  We’re now in Manhattan.  We’ve had our own intern (who will soon be our own part-time employee!).  We’ve been featured in magazines, videos, and all sort of media locally, nationally and internationally.  We have survived and rebuilt in our hometown, the greatest city in the world.  And we have no plan of stopping- we’re going to keep working our tails off, keep pushing ourselves, and keep marching to our goal of being able to make millions of people happy every day.  We’ve got great plans for 2011- just you wait and see.

But as of today, we’re still the little guy.  We’re still just a husband and wife who spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week together- who even when we aren’t baking are working together as parents and business partners.  We don’t have the sales or the budgets of, well, ANYONE else in this poll.  All that we have is the one thing that’s gotten us this far in 2010.

You.

If it wasn’t for all of you people rooting for us, spreading the word about our cupcakes, asking for them in your local stores (which, may I add, is how we’ve gotten nearly 100% of our locations), well…..there would be no Robicelli’s.  We didn’t give up because you guys wouldn’t let us, and you are making our dreams come true every day.  Not a day goes by where we aren’t in total awe of all of this.

So if you’re so inclined, click on the link and VOTE FOR US to be the People’s Choice of 2010.  All you need to do is create a Serious Eats account, which is something you’ll want anyway (it’s a pretty dope site. Plus, you don’t need to subscribe to anything and they won’t sell your info).  Leave a comment if you wish.  And please spread the word by reblogging, tweeting, whatever….spread the cupcake love!

Thank you all for such an amazing year.  I don’t think we’ll ever get used to all this crazy press- part of me still feels like an 8 year old girl looking up at everyone else in admiration.  I look at this amazing man I married, these two perfect kids, the friends this business has brought us and all that we’ve been able to accomplish in just 12 months, and can’t help but feel that win or lose, I may just be the luckiest girl that has ever lived.

We're One of Serious Eats' Best Sweets of 2010!!!

Wow.  Just, wow.

We go into work every day with one goal, to make as many people happy as possible.  To know that we’re doing it, and to get acknowledged for it on a platform as huge as Serious Eats, well, just wow.  To be listed in the same breath as Balthazar Bakery, Adirondack Creamery, Francois Payard, plus our good friends Liddabit Sweets and Anarchy in a Jar, and many more we admire….just, wow.

Thank you all so much for helping us get this far.  We are so grateful.

We’re big fans of the team over at Serious Eats, which is why we are totally stoked to be featured in today’s Sugar Rush feature! (click the photo above to read the article)
We’re also thrilled at the response to the Butternut Spice cupcake- it’s one we’ve been formulating for a long time and it’s quickly become one of our favorites amongst the close to 100 we’ve done.  It won’t be appearing in this weeks rotation, but we promise it will be appearing a few more times this year.  Pinky swear.
For those of you curious, the oil we put on the butternut cupcake is produced by Stonybrook Oils at a farm up by the Finger Lakes in Geneva, NY.  It’s one of the best finishing oils I’ve ever tasted- Matt and I like drizzling it over steamed cod or just dunking toasted bread into it.  It’s available at the following Robicelli’s-carrying shops:
Blue Apron Foods: Union St off 7th Ave, Park Slope
Market:  1211 Corelyou Road, Ditmas Park
