We occasionally bake things for celebrities. I never take pictures or tweet about it or things like that because the way we see it, when you’re enjoying something sweet, it’s a little indulgent moment just for you. I don’t need to be sticking my face up in that, blowing you up to the world, ruining your little pocket of “me time” just because you’re famous! Enjoy whatever it is you’re eating! Cupcakes and such don’t care about what tv show you’re on or how many albums you’ve sold- they just want to make you smile in your tummy.

However, today I’m going to have to blow up someone’s spot and do a bit of bragging, because this is just too. Freaking. Cool.

Ladies and gentlemen - today we have made cupcakes for….

WINNER OF THE 2013 KENTUCKY DERBY ORB!!!

Mind you, this is the first time we’ve ever made anything for a horse, so I don’t know if he gets to eat any cupcakes, or if his handlers get to slowly eat it in front of him, inciting him into a jealous rage and making him want to win more. That could very well be the case.  However what I DO know with absolute certainty is that horseys are the super-duper best, and Orb is apparently King of the Horses! SUCK IT, EVERY HORSE I’VE EVER ACTUALLY PUT MONEY ON! I’M A WINNER NOW!

Know who else is a winner? Your moms. And this weekend is Mother’s Day, meaning you should pick her up some special cupcakes, like our only-four-times-a-year Strawberry Champagne, or two of our Golden Girls cupcakes, or Banana Nutella (what mother doesn’t like Nutella? Aside from the ones with life threatening nut allergies?). You should buy your mom a few of these, load some Dirty Dancing up on Netflix, then slowly back out of the room and keep your freaking mouth shut all day. That’s the gift I’m hoping for.

Strawberry Champagne: Champagne cake, strawberry champagne buttercream and compote, edible gold dust

Bea Arthur: Black coffee chocolate cake, cheesecake buttercream, espresso ganache

Estelle Getty: Amaretto cake, cheesecake buttercream, amaretti cookies

Banana Nutella: Banana cake, Nutella buttercream, banana hazelnut praline

I had a great post written up, talking about the future and it’s potential, the tenacity of the human spirit and what we can accomplish, and the great things we all have coming to us in 2013- FAR better than the things we had in 2012.

Then I found out Kim Kardashian is pregnant with Kanye West’s baby. Huh. So, um, Happy New Year? Go America?

May this year be better than the last. U-S-A! U-S-A!

Flavors:

Strawberry Champagne: Champagne cake, strawberry champagne buttercream and compote
Creme Brulee: Vanilla cake, vanilla custard buttercream, caramelized sugar
Car Bomb: Chocolate Guinness stout cake, Jameson whiskey ganache, Bailey’s buttercream
Sticky Toffee: Brandied date cake, vanilla buttercream, sticky toffee sauce

Right on the heels of our historic couch purchase on Wednesday comes yet another monumental day in the Robicelli’s household. Seriously, everything’s just been coming up Allison all week. And with Steve Lawler, Internet Week, Techmunch, Rooftop Films, and Down & Derby Roller Disco all happening in the next seven days, I’m thinking it’s only going to be getting better. Or I’m going to have a nervous breakdown from exhaustion. Luckily for all of you, I’ll probably live-Tweet it, so at least you’ll all be able to point and laugh.

Back to the awesomeness of today: at 12:30, I will be attending my first ever “Muffins with Mommy” tea party at my children’s preschool! Further explaining the magnitude of this event: I’ve been a mom for five years now, meaning that I’ve had five Mother’s Days. But to tell you the truth- none of them really count until your kids understand what it is, and have enough dexterity to make a passable macaroni necklace. And this is that year! Not only that, but they’re actually making the muffins at preschool, which means not only are they finally cooking for me, but that I can probably put them to work once summer vacation starts.

Speaking of Mother’s Day, while pre-ordering is now closed and we are no longer accepting delivery requests, we will still have LOTS of special Mother’s Day cupcakes all weekend at DeKalb, including the first ever appearance of the Betty White cupcake (more on that tomorrow), and Chicken n’Waffles! And our super duper ultra popular Strawberry Champagne cupcake is back not only at DeKalb but at our retail partners as well. It’s only released four times a year: New Years Eve, Valentine’s Day, our anniversary (October 7th), and Mother’s Day. Grab one before you have to wait another ten months to revel in it’s sexiness!

Strawberry Champagne: Champagne cake, strawberry champagne buttercream and compote

Estelle Getty: Amaretto cake, cheesecake buttercream, crushed imported Sicilian amaretti cookies

Bea Arthur: Black coffee chocolate cake, cheesecake buttercream, espresso ganache

Valentine’s Day is here! If you need cupcakes for your sweetie tomorrow, you can’t order from us- we’re completely 110% booked with special deliveries. Fortunately for you, many of our retail partners are stocked with lots and lots of our special V-Day cupcakes and brownies. This is the last time you’ll see the Creme Brulee til December, and the Strawberry Champagne til Mother’s Day, so you’ll want to do what you have to in order to get those. Get your tents our of storage, sleep outside our retail partners, shove people, incite riots- the usual.

This February 14th is a pretty big deal over here in the Robicelli household. I spent every Valentine’s Day of my life single and alone until I met Matt. Then once we met, I spent every Valentine’s Day in a couple, but still alone. As you probably guessed, V-Day is one of the biggest holidays in the food biz, meaning not only were we always working, but we are actually inclined to hate it with the burning passion of a billion fiery suns just a teensy-weensy bit.

In the past two weeks when we were interviewed by Nona Brooklyn and Eat This NY, both asked us what our Valentine’s plans were, and we just shrugged them off and said we were working. Then we remembered that we have employees now and could get off early, and we already have the kids usual sitter watching them, meaning for the first time in my life I could actually theoretically have a real Valentine’s Day.

I’ve finally been choo-choo-chosen!!! I KNEW 2012 was my year!

Problem is that I have no idea what that means. I’m 31 years old and have never had a proper Valentine’s Day in my life. Really, the only advice I’ve got for the day is “buy cupcakes”, and I’m pretty sure Matt will stab me if I do that.

Sooo….ummm……who’s got ideas? I’ve got two days, and all I can think of is bowling. Advice over either Facebook or Twitter would be sorely appreciated.

In other news, congrats to my girl Betty White on your Grammy win! Bea, Rue & Estelle would be proud!

Clockwise from front: Creme Brulee, Strawberry Champagne, Ebinger, Eve

Creme Brulee: Vanilla cake, vanilla custard buttercream, caramelized sugar

Strawberry Champagne: Champagne cake, strawberry champagne buttercream, champagne strawberry compote, gold dust

The Ebinger: Chocolate cake, chocolate custard buttercream, chocolate fudge, chocolate cake crumbs

The Eve: Walnut cake, pomegranate cheesecake buttercream, pomegranate glazed walnuts

Birdseed 2

Aside from that part where my mother decided to “surprise” us by handing out little homemade sacks of birdseed to all of our friends, deciding not to remove the walnuts still in their shells from the birdseed mix, and also forgetting that our friends are jerks who wouldn’t actually unwrap the little parcels, but rather throw them at us whole like little nutmeat filled grenades- five years ago today was the best day of my entire life.

Matt, you are without question the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. I have two perfect kids because of you. We make thousands of people happy every week because YOU make this business work.  Every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I wake up, I know I’m the luckiest person alive because you’re there next to me. Thank you for not killing or divorcing me for five years. You’re the best friend I have ever had.

And mom, if you’re reading this: NEVER, EVER SURPRISE PEOPLE WITH PROJECTILE OBJECTS. EVER.

BIG weekend coming up guys!  First, it’s time for the Kentucky Derby!  And if you want to know why I’m so excited about it- well, I’m not! I don’t care about it at all!  But we made our once-a-year Mint Julep cupcakes for those of you who do, and that’s what’s really important here.  Now as someone who has made the Mint Julep even more delicious, and has been to Louisville and entire ONE TIME, I think I should be on the short list to become an honorary colonel.  Get on that, Kentucky.

Next- Mother’s Day! How great is that, huh? I mean, I’ll be working during it, but how great is it for everyone who doesn’t have to work!  I think you should bring the mom in your life cupcakes in bed, because even though you mean well with the whole breakfast in bed thing, she’s still going to clean the kitchen after she’s done eating.  So cupcakes, coffee, and maybe some single malt scotch in bed- that’s how you get points towards the “Second Best Husband In The World” trophy (Matt’s still the best- no competition).  And lucky for mom, we’ve made our very special “Strawberry Champagne” cupcake that only comes out three times a year: New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s, and Mother’s Day.  So enjoy this one before it disappears for another 7 months!

Then to close it out on Sunday- GUUAAACCTTAAACCUULLLAARR!!!  I hope you got your tickets early, because it’s completely sold out.  I will say that this is absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt hands down my favorite food competition event of the year.  We’ll be there selling some of our spiciest cupcakes, as well as some other favorites like El Guapo.  If you aren’t lucky enough to get in, make sure you keep up with the NachosNY site- they throw some of the most fun food events in NYC, like the GuacRock cruises and SalsaSlam.

And finally, we only have a little more than a week on our IndieGoGo campaign, and REAAAALLLLYYY need your help! Seriously, every little bit helps.  If one third of our Twitter followers donated 10 bucks a piece, we’d be there.  Unfortunately, one third of our Twitter followers are porn magnates from Southeast Asia, so we’re depending on you!

Now- flavors!

And welcome to all of you who are checking us out for the first time based on our win in Serious Eats’ Readers Choice 2010 Poll!  A brief intro- I’m Allison, the mom half of Robicelli’s, and the one who does all the Tumblring and Tweeting.  My husband Matt is the pop half.  We do all the baking, delivering, dishes, emailing, and everything else ourselves.  That’s the entire company.  Glad to make your acquaintance!

So now to flavors- we’re very happy to be back to work in our kitchen after it lost power for 3 days and the streets were unplowed.  Now you can finish off 2010 the way God intended- belligerently drunk and stuffing your face full of cupcakes.  Happy New Year everyone!
