How To Stay In Love on BROKELYN

Today I got to write a special Valentine’s piece for one of my favorite blogs in the whole world- Brokelyn! I hope you all enjoy it - and please, do leave suggestions in the comments box after the article. We’ve only been together seven years, and there’s still so much I need to learn about being a great wife.

And on that note……………..

Happy Valentine’s Day to my husband, Matt Robicelli. Matt, I have hated Valentine’s Day for every year of my life. I was always the girl who never got sent flowers, never had secret admirers, never found notes in her locker. It took me 24 years to find the man who would make every day for the rest of my life feel like Valentine’s Day.

Every year I usually buy you a card, but it never feels like enough. I might not have a mountaintop to stand on top of to scream it from, but on our blog, in front of all our tens of thousands of followers should work:

I Love You Matt

For the past seven years, every second I have been with you has been the greatest moment of my life. You’ve given me two perfect kids, believed in me and my dreams, pushed me, challenged me, and made me better in every imaginable way. I am, and always will be, the luckiest woman alive because I get to be married to you: the most perfect man on earth. Thank you for loving me.

Now back to everyone else- once you’re done reading that and throwing up, you should go get some baked goods so you get something back into your system. Red Hook Lobster Pound is giving away free Strawberry Champagne whoopie pies which will forever change your feelings about Valentine’s Day - and scroll down to yesterdays post and find all the places where you can get your cupcakes, whoopies and brownies to celebrate today!

If you write a blog, tweet a whole damn lot, or find bloggers crazy sexy, then you should definitely come down to the FRONTier room of the Bell House this Wednesday the 14th for a celebration of all things bloggy in Brooklyn.  Hosted by three rock stars of the genre: FIPS, Brooklyn Based and Brokelyn, it’s sure to be an amazing event filled with amazing people.  I’m looking forward to meeting many of the writers and podcasters I’m a huge fan of (Amy Blogs Chow, Brokelyn-if we haven’t met and you’re going let us know so we can get excited!), and catching up with the ones I have already had the privilege of meeting and falling in love with (Hey Brooklyn, The Main Ingredient, etc etc etc……we love SO many bloggers).   RSVP here: http://brooklynbloggers.eventbrite.com/

And if that wasn’t exciting enough for us, RED HOOK LOBSTER POUND will be there!  Gods honest truth, I hate lobster (srsly).  I have never for the life of me seen the appeal, or understood why something so gross is considered such a luxury.  After reading so much about the RHLP, their operation, and their infamous lobster rolls, I dragged Matt to the flea about two months ago to skeptically try one.  The damn thing was like sex in my mouth- suddenly every notion I had ever had about lobster was thrown straight out the window.  It was sweet and buttery and salty and every awesome adjective that has ever been used to describe food.  If it was easy for me to get to the flea every weekend, I would have gained about 20 pounds and cleared out my checking account on those things.  So please, come by lots of cupcakes on Wednesday so I can spend everything we make on lobster rolls.

Speaking of cupcakes, we’re designing a brand-spanking new one for this week in honor of the Bell House, which is one of our favorite places in the whole wide world.  We haven’t decided on a name yet, but it’s going to be a bourbon-infused banana cake with vanilla buttercream, topped with toasted pecans in a brown butter and bourbon syrup.  We hope you all enjoy it.

See you on Wednesday at 7!
