Tomorrow Matt and I will be celebrating our move to Williamsburg by not only bringing FREE SAMPLES, not only bringing our “so good it keeps selling out in minutes” Nocello brownie, not only our famous CHICKEN N’WAFFLES cupcake, but by also bringing back one of the rarest (and mindblowingly awesome) cupcakes in the Robicelli’s arsenal….
THE HOT JOSH! Carrot and celery root cake topped with Point Reyes blue cheese buttercream and buttermilk soaked fried chicken dunked in homemade citrus tinged hot sauce. Yes, it sounds insane, but trust me it’s awesome. Don’t trust me?
“I know that sounds a little shady, but trust me on this one: the cupcake was moist, the buttercream was perfection, and buffalo chicken is well, buffalo chicken. Who wouldn’t want that?” -Socially Superlative
Told you so.
Available tomorrow at Robicelli’s at Gourmet Guild- 110 Broadway, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Matt and I will be there with free samples, witty anecdotes, and dirty jokes from 1-4 - come say hi!

I have no time to write the WD-50 post today, or my birthday post 3 days late, because we are busy as f*!# today getting ready for:

We return to Manhattan tomorrow for a ONE DAY ONLY food festival! And it just made sense that if we’re going to be popping up for one day only, we may as well bake up some……….

CHICKEN N’ WAFFLES CUPCAKES!  We’re the originators, and we still do them the best. Still amazes me that three years ago when we first made them everyone thought we were nuts, now you Google it and they’re everywhere.  Maybe I’m not as crazy as you all thought, huh?

Also this weekend- The Maltz Brownie- aka CHOCOLATE BOURBON BACON. And a whole bunch of other awesome stuff too that we haven’t quite decided on yet- as always, feel free to Tweet at us with requests and we’ll see what we can do.

Remember- we sell out of these things really quickly. We do our best every single time not to, and we’re absolutely making a ton tonight in anticipation of it being popular, but in the event you absolutely positively NEED one of these things, get there early. Limited quantities will also be available at DeKalb market if the Seaport is not your thing.

Here’s details! See you tomorrow!

PARKED! A FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL

Built by MeanRed
August 4th, 2012 // South Street Seaport // 10AM-9PM

On Saturday, August 4, 2012, food truck mania of gastronomic proportions descends on Manhattan’s historic South Street Seaport for the fifth annual PARKED! Prepare to salivate over 30 of NYC’s most premium food trucks, gorge yourself on Restaurant Row’s 20 exceptional food vendors, and take home tantalizing dry-good-goodies from the General Store.

In addition to the city’s best food trucks and vendors, PARKED! will have a beer garden and a champagne garden, so you can imbibe refreshing adult beverages while listening to John Hammond, The Juggs, The Loom, and Johnnie Lee Jordan & The Boys perform on Pier 17’s main stage.  Face painters, stilt walkers, and magicians will be on hand to keep you distracted in line and your kids happy all day.

Lifestyle curators MeanRed instigated the NYC food truck craze four years ago, when the first PARKED! hit their modest waterfront venue BKLYN Yard. New Yorkers connected with the simple idea of spending the afternoon outside, grabbing a bite from their favorite food trucks, and listening to live music. Since then, PARKED! has grown from 5 to over 30 food trucks, and last year’s success brought 20,000 attendees to the seaport.

Still want more? If you find yourself to be impatient in lines and cranky when hungry, we suggest the PARKED PASS for $65. This little gem will be your saving grace to get the fastest access to your favorite and newly discovered food truck fare. Each Parked Pass is good for:

- A dedicated VIP express line at each truck
- 10 small bites from 10 trucks of your choice
- 1 drink

Parked Pass hours are 5pm-7pm only and are a limited run of 500! They can be purchased at http://www.ticketfly.com/event/118307

Check out updates, featured trucks, photos of past PARKED! festivals and more on the website: www.ParkedFestival.com. Keep up with us on Twitter @ParkedFest  and like the Facebook page for exclusives.

This weekend we’ve got not one, but TWO brand spankin’ new ice cream sandwiches! No pictures because we couldn’t get any sexy shots of them in the freezer, and besides- they’re ice cream sandwiches.  Really, they also all end up sorta looking the same. Just trust us, and visualize the greatness of:

Blueberry Burgandy: Brownie shells filled with ricotta gelato and a bluberry-burgandy wine jam

Espresso Chipwich: Espresso brownie shells filled with espresso gelato, rolled in white and dark chocolate chips

All of our ice cream sandwiches are made with Il Laboratorio del Gelato, which, you know, is sort of the best gelato in the entire cosmos. And if you didn’t know that, then you have to come down and see exactly what we’re talking about.

We’ve also got brownies, whoopie pies, and of course….CUPCAKES!

Last week Coquito was such a giant hit we had to bring it back! It’s a coconut lime cake soaked with a mix of coconut and sweetened condensed milks, topped with coconut lime buttercream and toasted sweetened coconut.

Also tomorrow:

Chocolate Berry

Hot Sundae

Creamsicle

Toasted Almond

Strawberry Shortcake

Banana Cream Pie

Chocolate Toffee

Boston Cream

And this little number right here. Maybe you’ve heard of it:

This Saturday at DeKalb, daytime dance party with British house legend STEVE LAWLER. 3-9pm.
DeKalb will still be open from 10am-3pm.  After that, you need a ticket. And it will sell out, so act quickly.
All you club kids are lucky, too, because we’re bringing back the Chicken n’Waffle cupcakes this weekend just for you. Plus another brand new ice cream sandwich flavor and other razzmatazz.

And then, wait for it….Mimosa Mornings are back! Hang out at our beer and food garden and tap our $1 mimosa special til 2pm. Remember, shopping is always more fun with a glass in your hand.

Happy New Year everyone! You know what my resolution is?

BE MORE AWESOME.

CW Buffalo Elvis Boom

It’s National Meat On Top of Cupcakes But They Taste Really Good I Promise Month!!!!

Is that true? Probably not. I don’t know who the hell doles out these National Food months- probably some advisory boards or something (how do you get on those anyway?).  As an inventor of the Chicken n’Waffles & Buffalo Chicken cupcakes, and being one of the people who put the whole “bacon on a cupcake” thing on the map three years ago, I am grabbing destiny by the horns and using my gravitas to commandeer an entire month in the name of dessert! Why the hell not!

-Chicken n’Waffles Cupcakes!!!

-Buffalo Chicken & Blue Cheese Cupcakes!!!!

-Elvis Cupcakes with Peanut Butter, Banana & Bacon!!!!

-Yes, They’re Really Delicious! I Swear!!!!

So WHY is it National Meat on Top of Cupcakes But They Taste Really Good I Promise Month?  Because it’s time for football playoffs.  And when a bunch of people get in a room to drink beer and watch football, you will need food.  And there’s only so many bowls of chili and nachos you can consume before your wife makes you start sleeping out on the fire escape.

As you may know, our Chicken n’Waffles cupcakes is rarely released, our Buffalo Chicken one even rarer, and when we do make them they sell out ridiculously quick.  Reason being? Well, for one thing our retail locations won’t sell them. Another, if they were available all the time, they’d stop being special and you wouldn’t want to jump all over them when they finally did come out! And most of all, frying hundreds of pieces of chicken in a teensy tiny pot takes foorrreeevvverrr.

But for the last days of football season? Well by golly, we are more than happy to slave over that pot day in and day out, from dusk until dawn, because if there’s one thing that both meat cupcakes and football scream, it’s that WE LOVE AMERICA.

I will never pass up an opportunity to link to Neil Diamond.

Normally, you need to order 4 dozen of these cupcakes to have us deliver them to you.  But since they’ll technically be “rotation” for the weekends, you’ll be able to order them with a one dozen minimum to Brooklyn, 2 dozen to Manhattan! (And you’ll be able to pick-up any quantities you want in Manhattan starting next weekend!). This NEVER happens!

So if you’re having people over to watch the games, want to make yourself the most popular guy/girl at the bar, or are just one of those people who’s always wanted to try them, place your order for football playoff cupcakes and brownies ASAP!  And if you’re a bar owner who wants to order some for a promotion, email me at Allison at robicellis.com- we have discount rates for businesses ordering in bulk!

Now for the cupcakes heading to stores as we speak- they may not have chicken or bacon on them, or be loaded with 18 types of booze, but they are insanely delicious and will help you stop being bummed that the holidays are over and you had to go back to work this week.  We’re there, too.  Thank Jebus I have a bunch of Bluths to get me through the ritual of taking down the Christmas tree- it’s so sad!

Clockwise from front: Tres Leches, Chocolate Strawberry, The Bluth, Cinnamon Bun

Tres Leches: Three milk soaked brown butter cake, dulce de leche buttercream, caramel shards

Chocolate Strawberry: Chocolate cake filled with strawberry jam, mascarpone buttercream, jam drizzle

The Bluth: Chocolate banana cake, chocolate buttercream, roasted walnuts, ganache

Cinnamon Bun: Cinnamon sugar spotted cake, cream cheese buttercream, cinnamon butterscotch, cinnamon streusel

Available at:

Cafe at Sam’s Bakery: 94th Street off Third Avenue, Bay Ridge

Hom: 88th Street and Third Avenue, Bay Ridge

Crespella: 7th Ave off 9th Street, Park Slope

Tazza Cafes: Clark Street off Henry AND Henry off Atlantic

Queen City Cupcakes: Patchogue, Long Island

Red Hook Lobster Pound: Roving food truck, Brooklyn Flea and Van Brunt Street, Red Hook Whoopie Pies Only

A Happy New Year to one and all! This is one of the only days we take off during the year, so there’s no cupcakes in stores today.  But I did get a teensy bit of work done and posted up the January Cupcake Schedule!!!  Now you can place your orders for any birthday parties, corporate events, hoe downs or hootenanies you’re planning for this month.

In the next day or so, I’ll be putting up a page for football playoff ordering.  Now, I know most of you don’t associate cupcakes with football, but you’d be amazed to know that the bulk of our fanbase are actually MEN (I know! It’s like I just told you I have a unicorn in my garage!).  And what man wouldn’t like watching football while eating……

CHICKEN AND WAFFLES CUPCAKES!!!!!

BUFFALO BLUE CHEESE CUPCAKES!!!

MOVERLEY BROWNIES- with walnuts, espresso, and SCOTCH! Or our Maltz brownie made with BOURBON AND BACON!!!

You show up to the bar with a box of Chicken n’Waffles cupcakes, you’re going to be the most popular guy on earth.  I promise.

And for those of you who still doubt that real men eat cupcakes?

Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith loves Chicken n’Waffles cupcakes  So does the MLB Fancave.  So, you know, go tell Ozzie Smith what you think about dudes and cupcakes so he can slap you with one of his THIRTEEN GOLD GLOVES.

If you can’t wait for me to put the order page up, or if you’re a bar who wants to do a bulk order, email me at allison AT robicellis.com so I can get it all set up for you.

Hope you all had a spectacular New Year, and make the most of your extra day off! Back on Wednesday!

Weather is perfect right now, and it’s going to stay beautiful all weekend, meaning it’s about dang time you GOT THE HELL OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!

Fall could not have come quick enough. I’m working outdoors right now in a crisp breeze, drinking coffee and wearing an adorable little sweater.  I look so goddamn cute right now, really.  (And if you want to come look cute with me, I’ll be working on the book at Hom in Bay Ridge for the next week, enjoying their fair trade coffee and free WiFi. They also have some pretty dope cupcakes here, if that’s your thing).

I think you guys should all put on cute sweaters and come see us this weekend- or at the very least an adorable jacket.  Because, well, there’s just so much to do this weekend! And NEW FLAVORS! Like:

-We’re using up the last of our New Jersey sweet corn to make something special just for you- a popcorn cupcake! Sweet corn cake, with a salted sweet butter buttercream, topped with Iowa popcorn!

-We also got some gorgeous sweet potatoes on our last trip to the farms in Jersey- so Sweet Potato Pie cupcakes are coming back!

-A cupcake inspired by baklava that we’re still designing……want to help us out? Friend us on Facebook- we ask for your input quite often over there!

-This puppy right here

Remember this from a few weeks ago? This is the Laurenzano: fresh fig cake with goat cheese buttercream, fig balsamic gastrique and crispy prosciutto.  This is the last time you’ll have a chance to see this for at least a year since fig season is just about done.

And of course, what would a very special day be without

CHICKEN N’ WAFFLES CUPCAKES!!!

You’ve heard about them, you’ve been requesting them for weeks, and tomorrow they’ll be back to knock your socks off.  And there will be TWO spots to get them at:

As always, come visit our store at DeKalb Market in Downtown Brooklyn (138 Willoughby Street).  This weekend is “Family Weekend”, so there will be lots of great attractions for the kids, plus DJs and Brooklyn Brewery for the adults.

AND

Come visit us and 74 other vendors for The Brooklyn Local, a fundraiser at DUMBO’s Historic Tobacco Warehouse benefiting City Harvest. In the afternoon, I’ll be hosting a “Make Your Own Cupcake Bar” for the kids, where kids can frost their own cupcakes and add as many toppings as they’d like. And in true Robicelli’s fashion, no food dyes or sprinkles- we’ll have crushed cookies, homemade chocolate and caramel sauces, chocolate chips, dried fruits (because we’re parents too- we just had to try), and more!

Fun fact: last time I was at the Tobacco Warehouse was almost 10 years ago, when my right arm made an appearance in a Most Precious Blood music video (don’t try to find me- you’ll have a seizure). Had you told me at that shoot that one day I’d be in the same spot hosting a kids’ cupcake decorating table at an artisan food festival……well, I mean seriously, how ridiculous is that last statement?

I guess this means I’m officially grown up now.  Because I didn’t get the hint from the marriage, children or businesses.  *le sigh*

Anyway- come down!  We look forward to seeing you!  And please tell me how young looking and attractive I am! Thanks in advance!

Apologies for posting this so late, but we’ve been at the mercy of the weather and humidity lately.  Fortunately, the forecast is lovely for tomorrow, so we’re making…
CHICKEN N’WAFFLES CUPCAKES!!!!

This is without question our most famous and most buzzed about cupcake (you may have seen it on Food & Wine or on The Today Show).  We only do it a select few times a year, so now’s your chance to grab one!

We’ll also be bringing other assorted flavors, and will have boxes and take-out containers so you can take them back to your office.  We’ll also be there with our friends from Liddabit Sweets, so tomorrow is a good day to sugar-load at work.

It was awesome seeing so many of you at the last pop-up we did at the beginning of January.  We had a ridiculous response last time, and were so happy to be able to do so many of our more “extreme” flavors again.  And as we opened up the PARK HERE project, we thought it would only be right if we came back to close it, with possibly the most ridiculous cupcake that has ever been created……

The Hot Josh

The Hot Josh

Celery root & carrot cake with Point Reyes blue cheese buttercream and citrus tinged Buffalo chicken.

This is the cupcake idea that Matt and I have been fighting over since October of  ‘09, wondering if it even should exist at all.  We’ve received countless emails and tweets from fans egging us on to do it, with me personally vetoing it every time.  Well, this weekend my husband turns 30 years old, so to celebrate I’ve relaxed my stance and will be making the most controversial cupcake of our marriage.  Because I’m a thoughtful wife like that.

I really have no words to describe the Hot Josh. It’s a culinary acid trip; something that engages you, messes with your head and at the end of it all is completely unforgettable.  I actually feel a little abused by this cupcake, to tell you the truth.  It’s like that time I saw that movie where at the beginning I totally thought I knew what was going on, then I thought that there was going to be a twist and I had figured it out, then by the end I was just COMPLETELY wrong and was so confused and disoriented by the whole experience that I was rattled to the bone for days.  I still cannot see anything about “Maid In Manhattan” without shuddering just a little.

If you’re wondering about the name, it’s for one of our fans who had heard Matt mention this cupcake about a year ago, and has been campaigning relentlessly for it ever since.  So everyone, thank @loungeaxe for this one!

Also on tap for this weekend:

Chicken n’Waffles

(because if we don’t make these for every event someone will probably stab us)
Vanilla “waffle” cake, vanilla buttercream, buttermilk soaked fried chicken dunked in pure Vermont maple syrup

El Guapo
Sweet corn cake, cilantro lime buttercream, Iowa yellow kernel popcorn

The Sarah
Apple spice cake, goat cheese buttercream, salted honey-almond brittle

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel
Chocolate cake, peanut butter buttercream, crushed pretzels, ganache drizzle

I hope lots of you can make it, and I look forward to seeing you all!  Please do make sure to wish Matt a very happy birthday, and REALLY emphasize the fact that he’s 30 now.  I’m only 6 months older than him, but he’s spent these past 6 months calling me “Cougar Chops”.  I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed that.

This is coinciding with the opening of PARK HERE in the space, an indoor park space.  From Eater:

“NOLITA— From January 7th to the 30th, Park Here, a pop up event, will take over an empty white box of a space on Mulberry Street. The space will include an indoor park with trees, grass, and food carts. An organizer explains, “We’ve curated a unique schedule of events, programming will include yoga in the mornings, open-to-the-public lunches with street vendors selling their delicious cart foods, and then foodie-oriented events like movie nights on the lawn and an UrbanDaddy pop-up dinner series.” [EaterWire]”

Our pop-up will be open from 11am til 6pm, this Saturday the 8th only. After that, we have no idea when the next appearance of most of these flavors will be- it could be months!

January 8th, 2011

11am til 6pm

We were on the Today Show this morning with one of my heroes, Dana Cowin (editor of my favorite magazine- Food and Wine!!!).

They featured probably our most talked about cupcake, and most special- the Chicken n’Waffles.  This cupcake is never in stores, and something we only do for private orders (like weddings as a grooms “cake”), and special events (like one of the many incredible MEANRED Productions we’ve been a part of).  We’re hoping to schedule one very soon- perhaps the Beardfest at The Bell House on 1/31?

Tomorrow we’ll be celebrating all things autumn at MeanRed’s OKTOBERFEST on Governor’s Island!  We’ll be pulling some old seasonal favorites out of the vault, introducing a new flavors, and of COURSE, we’ll be doing our infamous CHICKEN N’WAFFLES cupcake! (We know we said the last time would be at PARKED, but we sold out so quick we didn’t think it would be fair).
Here’s the lineup!
NEW!  Sweet Potato Pie:  Sweet potato cake with vanilla buttercream and maple-bourbon coated pecans
Caramel Apple:  apple spice cake with salted caramel buttercream and cinnamon sugar roasted apple
Chocolate Pumpkin Cheesecake:  pumpkin cake with cheesecake buttercream, dipped in chocolate ganache
Bea Arthur:  Black coffee infused chocolate cake with cheesecake buttercream and espresso ganache
Chicken n’Waffles:  Vanilla “waffle” cake with vanilla buttercream and a hunk of buttermilk soaked fried chicken dipped in pure Vermont maple syrup
